چکیده

Secondary myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) have been reported after autologous transplantation. It is not known whether the MDS results from the pretransplant conventional-dose chemotherapy or from the high-dose chemotherapy (HDC) used for the transplant procedure. We performed a multicenter, retrospective analysis of morphologically normal pretransplant marrow or stem cell specimens from 12 patients who subsequently developed myelodysplasia after HDC. To determine if the abnormal clone was present before HDC, we used fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) to detect the cytogenetic markers observed at the onset of posttransplant MDS. Cryopreserved, pretransplant bone marrow, peripheral blood stem cell specimens, obtained at the time of harvest, or archival smears were used. Standard cytogenetic analysis had been performed pretransplant in four patients, showing a normal karyotype. In 9 of 12 cases, the same cytogenetic abnormality observed at the time of MDS diagnosis was detected by FISH in the pre-HDC specimens. Our findings support the hypothesis that, in many cases of posttransplant MDS, the stem cell damage results from prior conventional-dose chemotherapy and may be unrelated to HDC or the transplantation process itself. r 1999 by The American Society of Hematology.

Predictors of therapy-related leukemia and myelodysplasia following autologous transplantation for lymphoma: an assessment of risk factors.

We analyzed data on 612 patients who had undergone high-dose chemoradiotherapy (HDT) with autologous stem cell rescue for Hodgkin's disease (HD) and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) at the City of Hope National Medical Center, to evaluate the incidence of therapy-related myelodysplasia (t-MDS) or therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia (t-AML) and associated risk factors. A retrospective cohort and ...

The effect of autologus peripheral blood cells transplantation along with platelet rich plasma in the treatment of patients with stress incontinence

Background The aim of this clinical trial was the assessment of safety and efficacy of submocosal and periurethral injections of peripheral blood derived autologous stem cells along with platelets, and focused on outcome for six months. Methods An open, prospective study was conducted on 10 patients presenting with stress urinary incontinence. At the baseline (pre-operative), 1, 3 and 6 mont...

AUTOLOGOUS MARROW TRANSPLANTATION IN THE TREATMENT OF MOPP AND ABVD-RESI STANT HODGKIN\'S DISEASE

Six patients with disseminated Hodgkin's disease resistant to MOPP (mechlorethamine, vincristine, procarbazine and prednisolone), and ABVD (adriamycin, bleomycin, vinblastine and dacarbazine) chemotherapy were treated with high-dose chemotherapy and autologous marrow transplantation. The patients first underwent marrow aspiration and storage for subsequent autologous bone marrow transplant...

Recent Technological Advances in Hepatogenic Differentiation of Stem Cells Relevant to Treatment of Liver Diseases

Liver failure, in an acute or chronic form, is a growing health problem ranking as one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Inborn errors of metabolism characterized by defects in hepatic enzymes or other proteins with metabolic functions, such as receptors or transporters accompanied with environmental factors involve etiology and presentation of liver failure. Currently, the only establi...
